The Lakewood Farmers Market kicked off its third season of operation today at City Center Park, near Marc’s Plaza.

It will try and fill the void left by the North Union Farmers Market, who pulled the plug on its Wednesday market at Kauffman Park after 13 years due to a stretch of poor sales. North Union Farmers Market continues to run a Saturday event at Crocker Park.

Today’s event was enjoyable and nicely attended, but in order to attract bigger crowds, more vendors — and ultimately financial sustainability — the upstart Lakewood Farmers Market team may have to tweak its formula and recruit more traditional growers from outside of the city.
